Notion, The Dilbert Principle, Day 1
Welcome to the first letter.
Things you should know: there is more than one way to skin a cat and there is more than one way to do business. Growth, tools, systems and ideas change with time, and you're only as good as the decisions you make as you get information.
I review software, tools and ideas for personal and professional development. I believe in positive sum games, and win-win-win relationships.
Unless otherwise specified I have paid the ability to use the tools.
I hope you get value.

leverage
In plain terms, a lever is a simple machine used to reduce the amount of effort required. There is no one lever or way of doing things. This is the value proposition of people who succeedā they find a way, that works for them.
Your all-in-one workspace for notes, tasks, wikis, and databases. Streamline collaboration and project management effortlessly.

Notion is an incredible software that has a cult like following, and it deserves itā itās scrappy and build for anyone from underdog to mega corporation.
It has incredible flexible pricing. I think is under priced for its value, but that is also what makes it so amazing.
They continue to innovate and add functionally that is brining the value in line with excel, but a different playing field.
You could use Notion for CRM, Relationship Management, HR, People, Projects, simple Invoicing, accounting, tracking, not to mention all the personal things you can do with it.
Its flexibility is amazing and the creator community around it only continues to add to its use case.
The UX/UI is almost overly simple, but as an apple user, I appreciate the oversimplification of things, if it means they will just work (you know what I mean?).
For larger organizations, when you get into paid tiers, you have the ability to control access to users, which is a requirement once your business gets to a certain size.
I have a notion site, purely for tracking the softwares I am collecting to write about and compare. Click the link to see the beginnings of the database: š
This is spot could be yours, instead www.digitalxvisuals.com is the one getting eyeballs.
DigitalxVisuals and a marketing and strategy company which offers web design and SEO for busy business owners who would just rather not.
So instead of them doing things they donāt want to do, they can focus on the things they do.
And leave the confusing, gobbly-gook to people who like that stuff.
sharp ideas
The phrase āmental modelā is an overarching term for any sort of concept, framework, or worldview that you carry around in your mind. Mental models help you understand life.
The Dilbert Principle:
The most ineffective workers will be systematically moved to the place where they can do the least damage -- management.
Ā· Ā· Ā· Ā· Ā·
As someone who has a relative degree of success and been given peer, superior and subordinate feedback reporting my effectiveness as a manager, I can say with total honestly, this is a humbling blow to the ego.
I think all things are on a spectrum, there are varying degrees of truth to everything. I believe strongly, and have seen the Dilbert principle at work, myself excluded of course.
Because I started at the bottom, and now Iām here, I know I used to be able to do it all very well, but if you donāt use it, you lose it. And now when people see me step in to support, I can come across as unknowing, as someone who is a Dilbert.
Luckily, most of the people I work with have been along for the ride, so we all recognize, there comes a time where the value proposition changes. Being good where I am now, adds far more value to the organization.
So be aware. Dilbertās are everywhere, and sometime less damage, is simply a different kind of damage.
quote Iām musing
Buddha said, āwhat you think, you becomeā¦ā so while quotes wonāt change your life, I do think they can shift your perspective, and that can be life changing.
One day or day one, you decide.
Ā· Ā· Ā· Ā· Ā·
This seemed a fitting quote for the first edition. Itās easy to get caught with the ābusy-nessā of life. A relatable thought to this is, āwhen Iām ready.ā You will never be ready.
Putting yourself into situations of discomfort is the difference between someone who adapts and someone who dies. The discomfort and discipline of doing things you donāt want to do, or donāt feel like doing is a moment to remember.
Ensure continuance by planning. Be realistic and give adequate time to have inputs.
Today is day one.
give a little, get a little.
Was there something you would like more of? Less of?
Tap reply and give it to me.
Also, have a business and are willing to let me have a peek behind the scenes? Passionately enthusiastic about business I would love to see under the hood and offer what I can or even just chat with other business people.
